In our post on the best food for fussy cats we talk a little about the food intolerances and sensitivities that cats can develop over time. In this post we talk about the benefits of hypoallergenic cat food and how that can help with cats prone to negative reactions from new cat food.
What does hypoallergenic mean?
Hypoallergenic simply means that the product is unlikely to cause an allergic reaction. Depending on the product, this can be achieved in different ways. For cat food, it’s more important to exclude as much as possible, rather than adding anything extra in. Removing any common allergens that are known to trigger food intolerances is essential. For example, while cats need their food to contain a high level of protein, too many protein sources can disagree with their tummies or contribute to skin issues such as excessive itching or scratching.
What makes a cat food hypoallergenic?
Lovebug is created by leading pet nutritionists and scientists at Waltham Petcare Science Institute and developed with high quality and sustainability in mind. From their extensive research around the best nutrition for cats, it is known that most sensitivities are caused by beef, dairy or fish in cat food and none of these are included in Lovebug. Not only are insects a more natural food source for cats, our insects contain no added growth hormones.
Is Lovebug nutritionally complete if hypoallergenic?
Yes. While we make a conscious effort to remove the extras that can contribute to feline skin problems or sensitive tummies, our food is still balanced and 100% nutritionally complete. Insects are an excellent source of amino acids and micronutrients required for adult cats but without any dairy or artificial ingredients.
